COLOURING CLASS RELEASE!

HI EVERYONE!

Our latest colouring class project is here! Join me this month in colouring some beautiful images by Some Odd Girl as we look at versatile techniques that can be applied to so many images in your stash. Look beyond just the images we are colouring today as you grow your colouring skillset to learn for all of your stamps, colouring books, and images. Our Monthly Classes are always access forever once purchased, so continue learning at your own pace when needed.

In our Pencils class, I will show you how to break down beautiful night skies, glowing objects, metals, glass, flames, and super simple rainbow hair that can be applied to any image. Our Markers class will give you some great practice at Skin and Hair, Clothing textures and colour blends, balloons and transparency, and simple backgrounds that can be applied to any image to create a party atmosphere. During the month, we will be making up some fun cards with these colouring pieces too! I can't wait to share these with you!

Our classes are not about being perfect or for you to try and colour just like someone else, they are about learning in steps to broaden your colouring skills, to challenge you, and to get you experimenting and playing. This is how we learn and grow. I'd love to help you on your colouring journey to feeling more confident :)

Are you a beginner? Yes, you can absolutely join in too!

Finished projects with lots of techniques can look scary and overwhelming as a lot of the techniques are new. Our classes are always broken down to the very basics, and even if you do find something difficult, I am just an email or message away and more than happy to spend as much time as we need to help you feel more confident :) It's important to manage your expectations and remember that classes are about learning new techniques and sometimes making mistakes in order to step forward, but we should never aim to be perfect.

Tried one of our Monthly Classes before? Just like how our colouring takes practice, so too does the teaching of it :) I'm confident that you will enjoy our latest class and find it easy to follow with great instructions! I feel that after two years of teaching our Monthly Classes that this is our best one yet with easy to follow instructions and navigation on the computer!

Sky and Clouds Tutorial

Hi everyone! Ok so I promise a tutorial for doing my clouds so here it is! I have used Reading Mae from Some Odd Girl. Before we start please note that I have seen this technique by other designers and I have just mashed a few examples together to teach myself….it is by no means my original idea and just how I have interpreted it :) Here is my finished card below.

Copic Colours Used in Tutorial:

Clouds C0, C2, C3 Sky BG0000, BG000

Skin: E000, E00, E21, E11, R11
Hair: E11, E13, E15, E18
Orange: YR000, YR02, YR07
Dress: B93, B95, B97, B99
Grass: G21, G85, G94, G99

Step 1: Firstly I like to draw a bounding box around my image so I know how far to colour the background. I knew that this one was going to be a circle so I lightly drew a circle in pencil. I then went around with my C0 marker and really lightly and roughly drew in the shape of the clouds (sorry you can’t see it very well!).

Step 2: I then go in with my C3 marker and shade around the bottom and ‘corners’ of the cloud. I do this very roughly and quickly and use almost like a blotting technique using the side of the marker to create a wide ‘dot’.

Step 3: I then take my C2 marker and, using the same technique as above, start to blend the darker colour out. I blot the C2 marker over the C3 and pull the colour toward the middle of the cloud to blend it. I do these steps very quickly to get the nice rough texture.

Step 4: Repeat step above using the C0 marker. How much colour you lay down will depend on the look you are going for (eg. storm clouds or white fluffy clouds). In my version, I have not extended the colour to the middle of the cloud to leave it a bit lighter. As you go over the darker colours you will notice that they lose some of their saturation and the cloud starts to look a little more blended.

Step 5: To create the sky, I use BG0000 around the clouds, and BG000 closest to her body. You can use either a soft feathering (flicking away from the image) to create a more seamless look, or, as I have done in my image, you can use a rough technique like the clouds to blot on a more textured looking sky. I like to do this if there is only a small amount of sky as the lightness of the colour coupled with the messiness has a nice texture.

Step 6: To finish it off, I cut out the image (which removes all of the edge flicking around the image) (and sorry it is wonky I don't have a circle die cut...haha!!!), and I like to ink around the edges to tie everything in. In this image I have used Tim Holtz Distress Ink Broken Glass which just frames the image nicely finishing it off. And Voila!
